Regeneration Field Institute (RFI)

The Regeneration Field Institute (RFI) empowers the next generation of leaders to explore careers in regenerative land use, sustainable building, and responsible supply chains through immersive field learning programs, applied research, and hands-on projects in agroforestry and bamboo construction. Working alongside farmers, builders, designers, ecologists, and engineers, participants gain practical experience while contributing to real-world initiatives in coastal and Amazonian Ecuador and high mountain Peru.

RFI is seeking a Managing Director to lead program and operational activities in Ecuador. This senior leadership role oversees staff management, financial planning, program implementation, safety and risk management, and strategic partnership development. The Managing Director works closely with the Founder to ensure high-quality program delivery while guiding the growth of RFI’s programs, partnerships, and research.

The Managing Director oversees a multidisciplinary team of program staff, technicians, educators, and seasonal facilitators and plays a central role in organizational strategy, partnership development, and operational leadership. RFI’s work includes regenerative agroforestry implementation, bamboo construction initiatives, farmer training programs, ecosystem restoration projects, and international field education courses.

Key Responsibilities

Program Oversight

• Lead the sales, development and implementation of RFI’s local and international education programs.
• Coordinate program logistics, curriculum delivery, and field program teams.
• Oversee the implementation of field projects involving students, researchers, and community partners.

Organizational Leadership

• Recruit, supervise, and mentor RFI staff, contractors, and program facilitators.
• Foster a collaborative and accountable team culture across programs and field operations.
• Support strategic planning and organizational development alongside the Founder.

Financial & Operational Management

• Manage program and operational budgets and support financial planning for RFI’s field programs and organizational operations.
• Track program expenditures and coordinate financial reporting.
• Ensure efficient operational systems and responsible resource allocation.

Partnerships & Organizational Growth

• Develop partnerships with schools, universities, NGOs, and research institutions.• Expand RFI’s education programs and identify opportunities for collaboration and new program development.
• Support outreach to institutions interested in hosting or participating in RFI programs.

Safety, Risk Management & Research

• Maintain safety protocols and risk management systems for all field programs and activities.
• Support grant development and research collaborations that advance RFI’s mission.
• Assist in the development and implementation of farmer training initiatives focused on regenerative agriculture and land restoration.

Work Environment

RFI’s headquarters and demonstration site, Los Arboleros Farm, is in Ricaurte in coastal Manabí, Ecuador and serves as a living classroom campus for regenerative agroforestry, ecosystem restoration, and bamboo construction research. The Managing Director will work both remotely and in the field alongside farmers, students, technicians, and visiting research partners implementing real-world regenerative land use projects.

While much of the work takes place in rural communities, there are options to live in nearby towns or small cities in the region and commute to project sites as needed.

Position Requirements

• Degree in environmental science, agriculture, engineering, architecture, sustainable design, international education, or a related field.
• Leadership experience managing teams, programs, or organizational operations.
• Experience in field-based environmental, agricultural, construction, or community development work.
• Strong organizational, operational, and financial management skills.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English (written and spoken).
• Ability to work independently within a small, mission-driven organization.
